Great food surrounded by nature and horses. Welcome to Riders Cafe.
Riders Cafe can be considered as a place where every foodie in Singapore should know about it’s existence. I mean there is no other place that combines great good, green scenery and horses all in one. No doubt it’s location may be considered inconvenient for many. Looking back, it’s been more than a year since I last visited this Riders Cafe (we last visited this place around Christmas 2009!) and I don’t remember it being so popular because honestly, a 2-week advance reservation was required in order to get my preferred timing. Nevertheless, it’s good to be back.
Why is it called The Usual? Well, my guess is that this would pretty much be the usual order that would apply to most and the usual western breakfast should consists of poached eggs, tomatoes, sausages, mushrooms and bacons, no? Sounds pretty catchy for a dish too. I would like to have The Usual, please. Not to mention this dish comes with my favourite salad vegetable – Arugula aka Rocket! Okay, just to break down the items in The Usual. I love everything that’s on the plate that’s for sure. The bacon isn’t too fatty, perfectly done sausage with tasty mushrooms and the rocket simply rocks. What’s left are the sourdough and poached eggs. Personally, I would think that the poached eggs are well, just eggs with nothing added to it and it’s rather plain just eating them on it’s own. Same goes for the sourdough bread. Hence, I would recommend that you try “bursting” the eggs’ yolk and have it flow all over the bread before putting them into your mouth. I find this way of eating both the bread and eggs most enjoyable.
For the salmon-lovers out there, this is a must-try. Comes with fresh Norwegian Salmon served on sourdough with poached eggs, together with rocket , asparagus and avocado on the side. Okay, maybe the salmon may not be the freshest around but nevertheless it’s still good!
Arguably the best milkshake I’ve ever tried. I still can’t find any other cafes in Singapore that serve Strawberry Milkshake this good. Creamy, smooth and sweet. Need I say more? Just try it!
Riders Cafe is easily one of our favourite restaurants due to it’s unique location and great food. No doubt the price of most items can be considered to be on the high side and I don’t really recommend coming very often due to this very reason but other than that, when you do crave for a perfect brunch on that perfect day, this is the place to go. Hopefully you will be lucky enough to see the horses which occasionally hang around the restaurant. Oh yes, we highly recommend that you drive here.
